  • Comments: Hi, I dont have a comment more of a question. My grandmother is legally blind with macular degeneration. My grandfather passed away last month leaving her mostly by herself.I strongly feel a seeing eye dog would benefit her but she has no money as she lost half her income when my grandfather passed. She has an 11 month old austrailian sheperd whom we think is really smart and would be trainable to help her. How do we do this or can she get a dog already trained. Do you donate dogs to people such as my grandmother? Any information or help you could provide would be much appreciated. Thank you

  • Comments: You do it out of compassion, sense of accomplishment and pride but most of all out of love for these beautiful creatures. To love and care for a puppy who is a potential partner and lifeline to somebody who is visually impaired is no doubt one of the most rewarding tasks you can ever undertake. Rinty came into my life in springtime 2006. Delivered to my front door, wrapped in a blanket. Needless to say this 8 week blond Labrador puppy instantly stole my heart. What followed was hard hard work and persistence I never knew possible. Frustration at times. But never before have I gotten so much in return. If you are thinking of applying to be a puppy raiser do not hesitate.

Dodger and Otis have a great time together and we will be moving to Florida after Christmas where the boys will have a huge back yard to run and play in. I think my hubby and I are planning to drive down to California sometime before then, but definitely on the way to FL when we move. It would be great to see some or all of you, if it is possible! I would love to get back in touch with you! Talk to you soon, Channon Quinn (Rolette)

I would be interested in raising a puppy starting sometime this fall (when I return from 6 weeks in Africa). I've had labs my whole life, but am in a stage where I don't want a long-term (15 yr) dog commitment--may want to do overseas work when I retire in a few years. I'd like to attend your meetings to learn the program and help out this summer. I miss dogs!!!

I know it takes a lot of work to put a website together and to maintain it. I sure wish I could come to the GDUO Romp sometime! It really sounds special. Enjoy your Boring Fun Day. We go to San Rafael. My husband and I were at the Boring campus many years ago, just after they put the grass in. I know it has changed from then. One of our raisers was there last year. We found the campgrounds nearby wonderful! Keep up all your good work! I know how much time and effort, mixed with a bit of angst, it takes to raise these special pups. From Pat and GSD Skylark - currently in her second season. I miss her.
